WHAT WE DO

Operations / Operations Management
WEARS currently has reservoir systems operating in Australian local and state government empoundments, in the private sector as well as overseas. These contracts are for both water and aquaculture treatment infrastructure. WEARS has staff with a range of skills that ensures these installations are operated in a diligent, responsible and cost effective manner.

Organic Contaminate Removal
Algal toxins and organic taste and odour compounds are a major water quality issue for many water authorities throughout Australia. There are a number of approaches to dealing with organic contamination, including management of storages and providing treatment capability to effective destroy or remove the organic compounds from the water stream.

Catchment Studies & Water Storage Destratification Systems
A multi-faceted approach is often essential to adequately deal with water quality problems. The levels of algal toxins, taste and odour compounds, manganese, iron, colour and pathogenic organisms are strongly linked to how the water storage and it's catchment is managed.

Iron & Manganese Removal
Elevated levels of iron and manganese in drinking water result in dirty water complaints from users. WEARS has a number of process options for manganese removal. These systems have proven to be both robust and a very cost effective means of removing metallic ions from water.

Process Review / Audits
Process audits are tools that enable water authorities to demonstrate to regulators and to the community that treatment facilities are operated in a diligent manner. WEARS has the ability to develop an audit protocols that cover process, environmental, and occupational health and safety issues.

Risk Management
Risk management is becoming increasingly important for authorities that operate water treatment plants and associated infrastructure. As a result of our operational needs we have developed the capacity to assess the risks that water authorities are exposed to when managing reservoirs.

Design / Project Management Capabilities
WEARS has in house, the full spectrum of design and project management capabilities to address all water related assignments. This is largely because WEARS has the capacity to provide in addition to normal design roles, operationally related assignments. WEARS therefore has the capacity to undertake conceptual & detailed designs, project management, commissioning & development of operational systems.

Community Consultation
Community consultation is a critical phase in the design of water and wastewater infrastructure. The process enables project goals and water quality targets to be established. A wide variety of approaches can be employed to take on board community views. WEARS has over the years developed a successful approach to community consultation through the use of consultative workshops for specific issues and more broadly open days and community surveys.

Strategy Studies / Conceptual Designs
It is critical in undertaking strategy and conceptual designs to have a thorough understanding of the raw water quality issues and the treated water objectives. Once this has been completed a process configuration can be selected that can achieve these objectives. WEARS utilises prototype testing where it is advantageous to validate process design and to mitigate against process risks (ie. The performance of the process under worst-case water conditions).

Detailed Designs
WEARS has a demonstrated capability in detailed design of reservoir infrastructure and ensures that designs are in accordance with appropriate Australian standards and have the capability to undertake analysis on detailed design to ensure safe and reliable operation of the plant.

Research & Development
WEARS is committed to research and development and has close links with the civil engineering department at the Griffith University on the Gold Coast. WEARS and the University are currently undertaking a review of areas and opportunities for major research projects and funding from interested parties. It is through commitment to research and development that WEARS is now able to offer technologies that have a sound technical base.
